Forsythia  - Spring Plant Gallery

Thumbnails: Spring | Summer | Autumn | Winter

Forsythia x intermedia - Widely planted and covered in flowers the same time as daffodils. It's easy to see them as a bit "common", but look again and they are really beautiful and exuberant - the floral equivalent of a Labrador puppy.

They need pruning quite hard after flowering, but then leave them well alone for the rest of the year as they flower on last-years wood. If you don't prune them they develop long arching stems that have the flowers quite sparsely spaced along them making a rather scruffy shrub.
