Daffodil / Narcissus - Spring Plant Gallery

Thumbnails: Spring | Summer | Autumn | Winter

Daffodils / Narcissi - The botanical name is Narcissus and so all daffodils are Narcissi. Daffodil is an artificial category dreamt up by gardeners for narcissi that have long trumpets - and usually that are wholly or mainly yellow in colour, though colour is less important than the shape and relative trumpet size. The division is not exact.

In North America, the name Jonquil is often used for Narcissi, though in Britain Jonquil is used to describe multi headed small flowering Narcissi.

That makes this one a Narcissus.

They flower from late February until late May according to variety (this is in most of the UK - it depends where you live as to exact dates) with the majority flowering from about mid March to Mid April.
