Winter Violas - Snow Pictures

Poor Violas. Good strong Violas that is, but poor as they are in reduced circumstances. These are in a container outside my front door planted under a standard holly. They flower all through the winter, taking each knock-back as it comes, but even, as in this picture - managing to raise a few bright happy flower faces to the world despite the severity of the weather.

The brown stumps are the remains of white lilies which are permanently planted here and rise magnificently up above the holly in the summer months. By mid spring, this container will be covered in the Violas with nothing else visible at soil height other than healthy Viola plants and a carpet of joyous yellow flowers.
