A heavy crop - fruit trees that haven't been pruned correctly for some years may well need their branches propping up to avoid the weight of the fruit from breaking the wood, so damaging the tree and allowing disease to take hold.If you need to do this, then remember to prune the branches when appropriate. This is during the winter and before bud-break in spring for pomes - these are fruit with pips, apples, pears etc. For drupes - fruit with stones such as plums and cherries, this should be done from late spring to autumn before the leaves have fallen off and the tree in is full growth.
