Garden care:  In early spring remove any misplaced, crossing or diseased branches and apply a generous 5-7cm (2-3in)  mulch of well-rotted compost or manure around the base of the plant. Goes well with:  Amelanchier lamarckii, Malus tschonoskii, Sedum 'Herbstfreude', Cyclamen hederifolium f. albiflorum, Galanthus nivalis, Colchicum 'Lilac Wonder'

Standard Chinese Wisteria  £89.95

This vigorous Chinese wisteria looks fabulous trained over a sunny wall or strong pergola. Renowned for its superior fragrance and flower-colour, the twining stems need careful pruning. Garden care:  In the first season cut back sub-lateral shoots to two or three buds. During the first winter cut back laterals by one third and sub-laterals by two or three buds. This standard plant has a 110cm clear stem beneath a 45-60cm head

This classic white Chinese wisteria looks wonderful trained as a small weeping tree. Garden care:  In the first season cut back sub-lateral shoots to two or three buds. During the first winter cut back laterals by one third and sub-laterals by two or three buds. This standard plant has a 110cm clear stem beneath a 45-60cm head

Wedding Cake Tree  £24.95

Position:   full sun to part shade. Soil:  deep, fertile, moisture-retentive soil. Rate of growth:  slow-growing to average. Flowering period:  June. Hardiness:  fully hardy Known as the wedding-cake tree, because of its distinctive, horizontal, tiered habit, this tree makes a lovely focal point for small to medium-sized gardens. It has bright green leaves with bold, creamy-white margins which turn red-purple in autumn and produces clusters of white flowers in June. Although.  it tolerates dappled shade, it performs best in fertile, moisture-retentive soil in full sun. Garden care:  Incorporate a quantity of well-rotted garden compost or horse manure in the planting hole to improve the moisture-retentive qualities of the soil. The tree requires no regular pruning, since this would interfere with its graceful, tiered habit.

Weeping Standard Rose  £29.95

Position:   full sunSoil:  fertile, humus-rich, moist, well-drained soil. Rate of growth:  average. Flowering period:  July to September. Flower colour:  soft shell pink. Hardiness:  fully hardy. Very double, soft shell pink flowers from summer and dark green leaves. This gorgeous standard has extremely fragrant blooms that have a heady scent of citronella mixed with peach, apricot and pears. It has a 1.5m clear stem with a weeping head on top. The whole plant is about 1.8m tall and makes elegant centrepiece for a potager. Garden care:  Before planting shorten thick roots to 25cm (10in)  and reduce top-growth to an outward-facing bud 8-15cm (3-6in)  above ground-level. Plant during a frost-free spell, incorporating well-rotted organic matter and a balanced fertiliser into the planting hole. Ensure that the 'bud union' (the bulge at the base of the shoots) is 2.5cm (1in)  below the soil. All our roses are field grown. In October/November they are dug up and potted. However, they will not produce any new roots until spring, so don't be surprised if the compost falls away from the roots when winter planting. Some suppliers send out 'bare root' plants unpotted, but we don't as it is easier to manage them on the nursery in pots. This half standard has a 150cm clear trunk and 30cm head.

Garden care:  Once established prune each year in mid-summer after flowering, removing one or two of the older stems to the base and cutting back the flowered stems to strong shoots below the spent flowers.
